Family Medicine Residency Program

The Credit Valley Family Medicine Residency Program, offered in partnership with the University of Toronto's Department of Family and Community Medicine and Trillium Health Partners, prepares future family physicians through comprehensive, community-based training.

Residents are fully qualified doctors who have completed medical school and are now completing specialized training in family medicine. They can assess patients, diagnose illnesses, order tests, prescribe medications, complete medical forms, and provide ongoing care under the direct supervision of an experienced family physician.

As part of the Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU), residents work closely with patients while gaining experience in areas such as women's health, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, geriatrics, emergency medicine, palliative care, procedures, home care, and long-term care. Every patient seen by a resident also benefits from the oversight and support of a supervising physician.

By participating in resident teaching, patients receive collaborative, high-quality care while helping train the next generation of family physicians who will serve communities across Ontario.
